FDAP assigns a staff attorney on a rotating basis to field phone calls (including collect calls from correctional facilities) from individuals without an active appeal, attorneys, and members of the general public with questions about California criminal, delinquency, dependency, and civil commitment appeals and writs. Those with an active appeal should contact their appointed appellate attorney directly. The attorney of the day cannot provide legal advice. However, we do provide information and resources about the appeals process, new laws, and other aspects of criminal, delinquency, dependency, and civil commitment law. We also assist trial attorneys with general questions about writ and appellate procedures and strategies for raising and preserving issues for appeal. Those who cannot find answers to their questions on this website can contact FDAP at 415-495-3119 and ask for the attorney of the day.
